Continuing Education Course Guidelines
(Architectural Record follows The Chicago Manual of Style and has its own style guide.
For GBCI, you must select 3 categories from the list below:
For AIA, you must select 1 category and 1 corresponding sub-category:
- Please reference the AR style guide.
- Use the manuscript template.
- Click here for the single-sponsored CE course template
- Click here for the multi-sponsored CE course template
- WRITERS: Please be sure to follow the highlighting code:
- For multi-sponsored courses - highlight sponsors' sections in blue for reference
- Photos, tables, and figures - highlight locations throughout text in red
- Case studies - highlight in pink
- Quiz answers - highlight throughout text in green
- General formatting comments – highlight in yellow
- The sponsoring company/a representative of the sponsoring company must be quoted ONCE (and only once) in the courses. In association with the quote, it is acceptable to note that the individual works for the sponsoring company, however, specific products cannot be mentioned. This applies to all course types (articles, multimedia, PowerPoint and webinar courses).
- Here is an example from Longboard’s recent course, Easing Minds and Boosting Facade Performance: “Architects are looking for ways to apply the profession’s longstanding appreciation for natural-looking and wood-patterned materials to positively affect, for example, workplace performance,” says Christi Dunkley, an executive with manufacturer Longboard who has conducted market studies related to anxiety and building-product choice. “We’re seeing more interest in how natural-looking metal cladding systems can make high-anxiety public spaces more comfortable and inviting.”
- The course images must be located within your CE course Word document. These should not be the high-res images, so feel free to screenshot the images to decrease the file size.
- If the manuscript and/or images are too large to email, please send them to me via Dropbox, Hightail or BNP Media's FTP site.
- When you are uploading materials, please be sure to select the appropriate publication name.
- Business Name Field: Include sponsoring company.
- Additional BNP Email Addresses: Include your email address and [email protected].
- All CE courses must conclude with a 10-question quiz.
- All quiz answers must be able to be found within the course or article content.
- Only multiple-choice and fill in the blank questions are permitted.
- Please provide an answer key for the quiz at the end.
- For end notes:
- Please do NOT use the end note function in Word, as the superscripts do not transfer over into InDesign. Instead, please just manually insert the end note number after the sentence that you are citing and make it a superscript.
- Use MLA formatting for end notes; at least include the title of the piece of work/article title, author(s), source/journal name, etc., URL (if applicable), date published, and date accessed (if applicable).
- Feel free to use easybib.com to help you cite your sources.
- Also, the Purdue Online Writing Lab has a good resource page on MLA formatting.
- For example:
- Within the text: MSU needs junior Demetrius Cooper to be more consistent outside.<superscript 1>
